Scrapbooking is Not the Only Option

Ever feel like you're failing at documenting your family memories because you don’t have time for scrapbooking?

Well don’t. Not everyone can (or even wants) to devote hours to all that.

Between school projects, snack requests, and just trying to actually enjoy your coffee before the ice melts, who has time to cut paper and glue things into a book?

As a Fort Worth family photographer, I understand how special it is to document all the memories. But don't stress. You don’t need a scrapbook to preserve your family’s best moments.

One of my childhood friends would work on her scrapbook during sleepovers, and my preteen self wished I had the creativity to do that for all my favorite memories lol. But there are other ways to document them that save time and make it easier if you do want to make an album or scrapbook later down the road.

With a few simple, stress-free methods, you can capture your family’s story in just minutes a day!

The 10-Minute Rule

Saving your family's best moments doesn’t have to take hours:)

The 10-Minute Rule is all about using tiny pockets of time to record memories, without overthinking it.

At the end of the day, set a timer for 10 minutes and jot down one thing that made you smile.

Maybe it’s the cute little dance your toddler did, or how your teen surprised everyone with a homemade sweet treat.

You can type it in your phone’s notes app, scribble it in a journal, or even use a digital assistant like Siri to voice record it.

The key? Keep it quick, easy, and stress-free!

Over time, these tiny entries become a beautiful collection of real, everyday moments, with no scrapbooking skills required.

💡 Bonus tip: Set a daily reminder on your phone so you don’t forget. Gratitude Plus is an app that recently became my favorite for this. It sends a daily reminder to add what you're thankful for that day, with photos, then stores them and sends notifications throughout the week of what you've been thankful for. I love it!

Memory Apps That Do the Work For You

Do you love snapping photos on your phone and recording videos, but hate organizing them?

There’s an app for that! Shocker, I know.

These apps save your photos and memories with no extra work from you.

Qeepsake: This app texts you questions about your child. You text back, and it saves the answers in a digital journal. They charge a fee but it’s a unique idea so it’s on the list.

Chatbooks: This app turns your favorite photos into books without you doing anything.

1 Second Everyday: Record one-second video clips, and the app makes them into a short movie. It gives “montage of a beloved movie character” vibes, so if you’re feeling emotional keep that in mind lol. It’s fun and easy to use though!

Google Photos & Tinybeans: These apps store and organize your pictures for you. I actually really love the monthly recaps that Google photos makes, since I’m terrible about deleting photos and tend to have clusters of super similar shots that clutter my camera roll.

Once you set them up, these apps work on their own!

The Monthly Photo Dump Method

I know I’m not the only one who’s camera roll is a disaster.

Instead of letting thousands of random photos pile up, try the Monthly Photo Dump Method.

At the end of each month, set aside 10 minutes to create a digital album labeled something like:

📁 Rivera Family – January 2026

Scroll through your phone and add your favorite snapshots. Messy toddler faces, goofy family selfies, or that perfect sunset from your beach trip all get added. I'm a Fort Worth family photographer so I don't get many beach pics lol, but I love Texas nature and will fight anyone who says it's ugly. Moving along...

I usually also make a separate photo album for any family vacays we go on! I just go through and heart my favorite pictures from the trip, then add them to an album.

No need for fancy editing or stressing about whether to delete a pic. Just save the highlights!

BONUS TIP: Create a shared album where grandparents can see the best moments each month without scrolling through social media.

This system keeps your memories neat, accessible, and ready to relive anytime!

One day, you’ll look back and realize the little moments were actually the big ones.

And you don’t need a scrapbook to remember them! I use my hearted photos to write down my favorite memories in a physical journal every new year. It’s a great alternative to full on scrapbooking, since I still get to reflect on old memories and record them in a physical book.

With just a few minutes a day, you can create a beautiful, effortless record of your family’s life. And this makes it easier to make a scrapbook if you decide to later, since your photos are already organized!

So pick one method and start today.

Because years from now, when you’re flipping through those digital albums or re-reading those tiny, easily forgotten memories, you’ll be so thankful you did.

Ok enough with the sappiness, go save some family photos!:)
